Mission: 101- Where No One has Gone Before
Location: New Zealand Penal Settlement
Timeline: 5 August 2264

It had been just over a year since Jackson had been sentenced to the New Zealand Penal Settlement, the final nail in the coffin of what was once a bright and promising career in Starfleet. He sat beach side in the sand just up to the water, his pant legs were rolled up over his ankles. hands lightly clasped together with his elbows resting on his knees. It was quiet, he found it peaceful and relaxing feeling the water rush up over his bare feet. He enjoyed this part of the day, no more meetings to sit through verbalizing his past mistakes. He would sit there for hours staring as far as the eye could see. Today though his time alone was short lived, beyond the sound of the waves rolling in the distance he heard footsteps.

"Jackson Grey."

Jackson dipped his head letting out a quiet sigh in the form of a chuckle. It was a voice he hadn't heard it quite sometime, but there was no mistaking the hard line tone of Admiral Marcus. Pushing himself up he wiped the sand from his hands before turning. "Admiral Marcus, you're a long way from home aren't you?"

"I could say the same thing about you, now couldn't I."

"What can I do you for sir, I'm guessing you're not here to confess your sins in one our knights of the round table meetings."

"Hardly." The Admiral shook his head unable to hide his disappointment. "Your parents would turn over in their graves if they saw you like this, take a walk with me son." The Admiral said motioning with his head.

Jax let out a deep sigh as leaned over to scoop his shoes from the ground, why argue he thought to himself and began walking in stride with the Admiral.

"I'm going to be honest with you Jax, you are hands down the best pilot I've ever seen, but here you are, stuck on a beach with nothing more than memories to show for it."

Jax stared straight ahead, "How could I waste such talent, a promising career, blah blah blah, I've hear this a million times from my goddamn counselor over the past year. So why are you here Admiral?"

"There is a major threat out there Jackson, 16 worlds have been attacked from a race far more advanced than anything we've ever encountered. We've launched an entire fleet of Constitution Class starships to make contact. But we held one ship back, the most advanced ship in Starfleet, the Enterprise. I want the best pilot in the galaxy at the helm of the best ship in the fleet. I'm offering you a way back son."

Jackson stopped, "Me? I've been away for a bit but the last time I checked you were in Operations not JAG. What are you busting me out of here or something, where's the getaway car?" Smiling as he looked over the Admirals shoulder.

The Admiral took a step forward and extended a PADD against Jackson's chest. "I have a lot of pull, this wasn't easy, and it comes with a price. You are to be reinstated as a Starfleet Officer reduced to the rank of Lieutenant and assigned to the USS Enterprise. Consider yourself lucky, second chances like this don't come along often. You think about that. Enterprise leaves in one week, I hope you're on it."
